You've come to the right place if you want to keep up with what's going on at the Cox Guide!

February 2012

I get repeated emails asking if the site is still active and if I am selling The Cox Guide... and the answer is YES! I am doing most of my day to day communication via Facebook, and via my column for Rowing magazine titled, simply, Coxing. So come check them out!

So, the word is Facebook! This is where I am going to be posting most of the news fit to print from this point on. I am shutting down my email newsletter because I think Facebook offers easier and quicker connections to all of you. Its two way, and I think that is far better than me lecturing. So, head on over and join us today!

In other news, I have decided to put up some useful things I have been working on for the coaches. This will be in lieu of a book on coaching for now, as the updated Cox Guide is taking my primary focus this year. Well, that and my day job, family, etc.

Lastly, I hope very soon to be offering cool baseball hats with the Cox Guide logo on the front, so you can let the world know what you stand for: good coxing! So, till later, good rowing!

Hi gang, there has been so much going on recently I haven't had much of a chance to update the website. People keep asking if I am still in business! Let me assure you that everything is still well here at the Cox Guide. Here is what I have been up to:

  • Starting August 2008 I have been writing the Coxing Essentials column in Rowing News magazine. I can't tell you how honored I was to get the nod from Chip and Ed at the magazine asking me to write for them. I get to talk about coxing any way I want. What's not to like? If you have any ideas or requests for topics, let me know!
  • I've begun peliminary work on the 3rd edition of the Cox Guide. My goal is to make the material even more cohesive, and introduce some new concepts I've developed through my writing for Rowing News, and talking to you, the coxswains/coaches.
  • I'm also developing my web presence including a Facebook page and other things. I think the online social media will take the place of my Constant Contact e-newsletters in the near future.

My personal news is that I am getting married in about two weeks. As you can imagine, planning a wedding and keeping up with my day job (patent examiner), book orders, the items mentioned above, and things in general have me pretty busy these days. But never fear, I am still working hard to get the best ideas for coxswains out to you. Hope you all are doing well, and keep in touch! Its your feedback and notes that keep this project going and worth every minute of effort. Thanks!

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I hope this note finds you well. Just a quick update to let you know that things are still moving at The Cox Guide. So many projects, so little time! I am getting about 10 emails a day asking when the Down and Dirty Guide to Coaching is going to be ready. Its a big undertaking, but I'm making progress. A new booklet with many of my charts and such will be available this spring. The main book is coming along, but I want it to be just right. Also, I'm still working on a great new CD with more material. We're still taking submissions for audio tapes for the next edition of the CD as well. Stay tuned for more details soon!

I also wanted to alert you to two great websites: All For One and Regatta Northwest. Dominique Derrenger created an amazing documentry/movie about Cal Crew, Ky Ebright, and the amazing Cal crews of 1998 and 1999. This is a must have video for rowing fans. Head over and sign up to be notified of the DVD release coming soon. Mara and company at Regatta Northwest carry the excellent cold weather floatation suits that are a favorite of coaches, coxswains and referees. They are warm, waterproof, will keep you afloat in an emergency, and are darn near bullet proof. They are worth every penny.

So that is it for now. Keep your ear to the ground for new updates soon. 2007 is going to be a big year and we'll be here to help you make it happen. Cheers, George.
